First Day of PreK

This morning was my first day of PreK at T.R. Paul Academy of Arts & Knowledge. I got to wear my new outfit that I picked out with Mommy, including my fancy bow headband and my sparkly heart shoes.

Even though I’m switching into the older room, I’ll be on the same schedule (2 full-days each week) and many of my friends will still be in class with me (though my younger friends will still be in the PreSchool classroom another year.)

My new main teacher is Miss Porter and she has several assistants. I like her a lot but I’m glad I still get to see Mrs. S and Ms. Thompson each day too.

Larimer County Fair

Today I went back to the Larimer County Fair, this time for the whole day. Nana Brann came with us. We watched an illusionist, visited with the Wildfire Rescue team, ate junk food & rode the rides! Grandma got us lots of ride tickets so I went on a bunch! My favorite was the Yoyo, a giant swing ride that I was tall enough (& brave enough) to go on by myself. I was so excited that I’m finally tall enough to ride this ride. I had a blast!

First Horse Ride

This afternoon, while Siena was at school, Mommy took me over to a free festival at the Centerra shopping center in Loveland, CO. We weren’t sure what to expect but as we were driving into the mall, I saw the giant horse statue in front of P.F. Chang’s restaurant and told M0mmy I wanted to ride the horse. She tried to explain that it was a statue and that I wouldn’t be able to ride it.

At the festival, there were several booths related to animals. I got to pet an albino boa constrictor named Princess; pet sheep, bunnies, goats & baby chicks; gave treats to some dogs; and best of all, I got to ride a full-sized horse. Not only was this my first time on any kind of horse, but I rode all by-myself and I held on tight the entire time without having to be reminded. It was lots of run and all the ranchers were impressed with me.

4-Year Check-up

Today I had my 4-year check-up with Dr. Sampera at the Youth Clinic.

Height: 3’ 4.8” (74%)
Weight: 38# (75%)

I rocked the questions on the Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) and even drew a picture for my doctor. I was brave during the exam and only got upset when I sniffed the FluMist vaccine not quite enough and it burned the inside of my nose.

Here’s what I’ve been up to since I turned 4:
* I love playing with words: making up words & stories & songs
* I love to play with arts & crafts: paints, scissors, gluing & markers
* I like playing with my dolls: Barbies, Kyla & my Bunny House
* My favorite foods are Mac & Cheese and Corn-on-the-Cob
* My favorite song is Old Macdonald Had a Farm
* My favorite book is the Roly Poly Puppy
* My best friend is Aspen
* My favorite game is Hide & Seek
* I am currently taking cheerleading (and having lots of fun with the Pom-Poms & tumbling) but also enjoy gymnastics/dance

Hello Kitty Roller Skating Birthday Party

Today I turned 4 and celebrated with a Hello Kitty Roller Skating Birthday party! I asked for this birthday party months ago and kept the same decision. Mommy was able to make it happen by baking & decorating a super yummy Hello Kitty cake for me (that was gluten-free and dairy-free and had plenty of sections without the “bad colors” that I could eat a BIG piece at my party.)

Before my party, I had breakfast with Breanna & Martin (cousins who visited from Wyoming but weren’t able to stay for my party) and Nana at The Egg & I. They made me a yummy pancake.

My party was held at Roller Land which is a skating center in our town. Friends for school & non-school friends joined me to skate. My friends that came were Delaney, Sami, Paige, Katherine, Violet & Julia. We had fun roller skating with glow stick necklaces, even though it was the first time most of my friends had skated. Jackson skated too (only “family boys” were allowed to the party.)

Resolutions

Tonight we had a dinner of home-made pizzas and age-appropriate bubbly.  Over dinner, we discussed the concept of resolutions.  Here’s what we came up with for 2013:

Family Photo ~ New Years Eve

Happy New Years!

Mommy

  • Find better ways to manage stress & eliminate unnecessary stressors
  • Improve overall health
  • Master continental knitting technique
  • Complete at least 1 full year family scrapbook (doesn’t need to be the current year, just a full year since both kids were born)
  • Feed myself better when Rob is traveling
  • Smile more (even when I want to yell or pull my hair out – I figure even a creepy “I’m forcing this smile” is better than a grimace)
  • Exercise more (including yoga, pilates and walks with the kids & dog)
  • Blog more

Daddy

  •  Learn another language
  • Hike more
  • Make mommy happier

Siena

  • Do a real cartwheel
  • Stay dry at night
  • Learn to read 1 book by myself
  • Learn to write 4 more words
  • Learn to ride my bike
  • Learn to swim without floaty wings
  • Hike more

Jackson

  • Learn to ride my bike
  • Wear big boy underpants with trucks! (aka potty training)

Jackson’s 2-Year Checkup

Despite the cold temperatures & Mommy’s nagging cold (which I gave her) we bundled up & went to the Pediatrician today for my 2-year check-up. I behaved fantastically and shed no tears the entire visit. I was asked by the Nurse to come give lessons to the other 2-year-olds. :)

My measurements came in at:
Height: 36.025” (3’) - 75th percentile
Weight: 27# 11oz - 52nd percentile
Head Circumference: 19.5” - 80th percentile

I rocked my Ages & Stages Questionnaire and Iron/Anemia test (the nurse pricked my finger to draw some blood & I didn’t even flinch but my Sister! Man, did she freak out when she saw what the Nurse did to me.) I didn’t have to have any shots but I did have to sniff some FluMist thing that the Nurse tried to tell me was a flower but I don’t buy it. I didn’t mind too much though as I did sniff it twice (once in each nostril.)

Big Boy Bed!

Today I decided to climb out of my crib again during naptime. This is twice not and while I’m getting the hang of it (no scary crash landing this time) Mommy decided to end my fun. She removed the front of my crib & installed a toddler rail instead. Sister helped with the installation & made my bed while I sat by watching & eating graham crackers.

I love my new Big Boy bed but I guess tonight will be the test for Mommy & Daddy as to whether I stay IN my bed all night.

Sweet dreams, Mommy. Hope you’re all rested up.

18 Month Checkup

Today was my 18month checkup with Dr. Sampera, my pediatrician. I had to have a bunch of shots, which I didn’t like at all, but I bravely calmed down quickly afterwards. I got a blue dinosaur for being such a brave boy!

Here are my stats:
Height: 32 3/4” (52%)
Weight: 26#, 14.25oz (55%)
Head Circumference: 19” (55%)

Awesome Asian “Tacos”

Asian Tacos

Tonight, Rob & collaborated on dinner genius.

We had a pouch of stir-fry sauce in our pantry, but instead of cooking chicken & veggies in the sauce & serving over rice, we decided to instead stir-fry the chicken (seasoned with salt, pepper & garlic powder) in a dredge of flour seasoned with Chinese Five Spice & more garlic powder. He stir-fried the chicken & some thinkly-sliced yellow onions on high with some wok oil until chicken was cooked through & then set aside. We then quickly heated up some of the Multi-Grain Artisan tortillas (love these!) in a dry frying pan (a few seconds on each side) and piled the chicken & onions onto the tortillas, squeezed on a tiny bit of the general tso’s sauce, sprinkled with sesame seeds & then added some raw brocolli/caulifower/carrot/cabbage slaw mix (ready-made from the grocery store produce section) and gobbled them up. These were awesome & felt really light (except the calories from the tortillas.) Also, since we only used a little sauce, we didn’t have the except calories from the sugary sauce if we had instead cooked everything in it. And the whole thing was dairy-free too! Yum, yum, yummy!

My First Haircut

Today I had my first haircut. My hair is painfully straight so instead of cute baby boy curls, I essentially had a mullet. Mommy made me an appointment at Cool Cuts for kids. Miss Wendy was great with me and ended up giving me a really cute haircut which she styled up with a little gel for a faux-hawk. I didn’t like wearing the cape, so she let me tape it off. I got to watch an Elmo video while sitting in a firetruck chair. My hair looks cool.

Here are more pictures from my adventure.
